    bomber clasp with pendant

    Hi friends
I just received this bomber clasp with pendant. As I saw other pieces from this firm (Richard Simm & Söhne), I´m wondering about the poor quality, as the bomb shows some bubble on the surface. In my opinion the rivet was set too deep, therefore it created this hump on the frontside. I wouldn`t be happy to get such a clasp awarded or was it due to late war production ?? Or was it broken and the recipient went to some private source to get it repaired ??
Kindly state your opinions, best regards Stephan

          Hi Hopsi,

The clasp looks fine to me, I like the details and the reverse hardware. The pendent also looks pretty good, but admit that these can be pretty tricky and there are others here that know more about them than I do.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I don´t see any problem with it.

Ludwig, my only problem has been, that I was worrying how could a piece with this defect pass through high german quality control, if it was not repaired later. I thought it should have been declared as defective goods, and therefore never been awarded. Do we know other pieces with minor production defects in collections ???
                  regards Stephan

I am thginking this clasp is good but extremely degraded. There is none of the gold finish left which you normally find on these pieces. With the finish on maybe it passes inspection or it has been tightened up. I am not keen on the pendant but there are always exceptions. The pendant looks unconventional and not what is normally found on this model. Not a very objective opinion with lots of documentation to substantiate my thoughts but I have seen many of these. It is probablbly the most common late war bomber clasp found with the pendant. I like them very much but this one is not in typical condition.
