Hello to all,
I have a badge here that I suspect is either a good repro or a very late war made piece.
Before you discount it as a repro....consider the description I will give.
The piece is "die forged" as opposed to hand cast.
The outer edges are sharp and crisp.
The tell tale "sheer" marks(fine lines) are on all edges....well defined.
The piece is very heavy(not lead) and all measurements are in line with an original.
It is a direct Vet purchase through an Estate cleanout and all the other pieces it came with are original.
The pin assembly is well made and attached properly....the rivets are not domed but are well done.
The downfall of this piece is the crudeness of the details in the eagles head/feahter's of the wings...the gold/bronze wash or whatever is applied seems so thick as to obscure these finer details...it looks fine from 12" away !
One member of another forum seems to think it may be a repro but another opinion from a well known dealer seems to think it is "good" but late war.
What do you think?? and thank you for your time!Mark B.
