Fake OM? Fake Fantasy? Id doesn't really matter. It's been correctly ID'd as a fake.

My thought was OM as well - and not a very good likeness either.

              Hi guys,

This is simply a 57 pilot badge, where someone added the swastika to try and pass it off as a wartime-made badge.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

well,,this is getting weird tom, iam looking at the swaz and there is no sign of any re attachment. Your pic matches perfectly to the eagle. Rivets are different, did someone recast a 57 with a swaz?

                  Maybe.

Or, S&L originally made the dies WITH the swastika and just cut it off when they were making 57 badges. They left it on when they were making reproductions.....

                  OR

The other possibility would be that S&L actually made the pilot badge during the war. They kept the dies and after the war when they made 57 pilot badges, they used the original dies and just trimmed off the swastika. As far fetched as this sounds, this is EXACTLY what they did for the Para badge and several other badges.

However, I would really doubt they did this with the pilot badge. Especially the one you show, which is trying to be an "early" badge made with high quality base metals. The few Luftwaffe badges that were made by S&L are all mid-to-late war products made from zinc which suggests they were a later war producer as far as LW badges are concerned.

                    OR.............

maybe Souval actually made the Warsaw Shield during the war and then kept the dies and made the post-war copies from them.

Do we actually KNOW anything about ANY of these badges?

Or is it all just theory?

                    I just don't know. Honest.

It is high quality material on the wreath, one of the reasons I posted it was due to that. I see all the normal fakes but this one threw me for a loop due to the metals used. I really do not know what to think of it.

Iam in no way trying to make it real, it did come with some good items and I was keeping it to the side and started examining it and found it strangely high quality for a fake. If it is of any interest Iam back in the USA for 1 month and would send it to <you for="" hands="" on,,iam="" just="" kind="" of="" curious="" because="" its="" a="" weird="" fake="" then="" wha="" iam="" used="" to="" seeing.="">you.

For Toms badge I would take a guess as S&L,,it has the catch. Mine has the same except it is a thin wire catch.

Thanks, Dion. I was unaware that S&L made a wartime pilot badge from which they could have produced a 57 version. Interesting.

Though the eagle is a great match, the wreath and set up are not. The eagle is higher on the wreath in Dion's example, the rivets are different, there is no sign on the wreath that the rivets were lower at some point, the catch and hinge are different also. It looks like the 57 eagle was married to a swaz and then attached to a wreath rather than someone taking a 57 badge and adding a swaz.
