    Aluminum Assmann Pilot

I had the good fortune to examine a friend of mine's Aluminum Assmann Pilot Badge. I think it is original. When I show the rivets and the eagle, let me know what you think.

    Thanks.

I have not held one of these before so it was a great thrill for me.

Yet another view, any and all comments welcome. I had a feeling this one was right but I've never held an alumin. one so please let me know your thoughts.

Joe asked me if it was a think wreath and I believe the answer is yes...

You can see the rivet through the top of the wing which I THOUGHT I had seen somewhere here on the forum but couldn't remember where.

Looks good, Brian but I think with this type, just the eagle is aluminum, the wreath is Buntmetall.
                  Cheers, Frank

Thanks for the comment Frank. I had this badge in hand yesterday and looking through a loop at the scratches in the wreath, it is aluminum.

I don't have it to take more photos but look at this enlargement, please. It sure looked like alu. to me...

Don´t think so Brian. Full Aluminum Assmanns have a different catch and hinge system and an additional D.R.G.M. mark on the wreath.

This type you show is the typical BM wreath Alu eagle.

If it was Aluminum for both parts, you wouldn´t even have taken that loupe into your hands as these badges are light as a feather.
                      Cheers, Frank

It was pretty light, now I'm perplexed, but you're definitely right about the hinge/clasp. Now as for the DRGM, I think there might be some divergence of thought there. I'll get the full weight of the bird as soon as I can from the owner. I just can't find one here on the forum to figure out who has one?

Here is what a FULL Assmann Alu should look like. Your friend´s badge is also a well known type with just an Aluminum EAGLE.

The pic/badge shown is credited to Neil Howes, I hope you do not mind, Neil.

                            Hello Gentlemen,

Here are pics of an unmarked all Aluminum Assman Observers badge. I think that Frank maybe right on the metal composite of the wreath.

                            Best,
                            JD

Interesting Joe, the clasp isn't real clear though. Is it like Neil's?
