    New theory ............

The more I think on Assmann LW badges, the more I believe that Aluminium badges made by Assman are also marked D.R.G.M. -
Which mean, and Ionly speak of LW badges, "A" D.R.G.M. describes an aluminium badge and that an aluminium badge by Assmann is always marked , "A" D.R.G.M.
Of course it is only a theory but I would like to hear other opinions on this.

As the DRGM basically means copyright, I assume that A designed the badges and made his very initial ones with the DRGM sign, which then fell away as no private company could logically copyright an official award. I think the copyright would belong to the govt.
So soon after the first badges were made the DRGm fell away.

I have a thin early assmann in alu to a Stuka pilot with DRGM and A and a PO in the early thin form, Tombak with an A and no DRGM

Ok girls, I was not clear:
I know what D.R.G.M. stands for and that it whas used by other makers and other badges/medals.
I speak only about LW qualification badges
        I speak only about Assmann
I speak only about aluminium badges

So, I turn my question differently:
Does somebody knows an aluminium qualification badge of the LW, made by Assmann and not marked "A" D.R.G.M. ?

        François
PS: the possible point (and I could be wrong) is that aluminium badges made by Assmann are marked D.R.G.M.

          Everyone STAY CALM !!

I think François has a good theory, and I'll back it up because ALL the aluminium luftwaffe badges that I have seen marked D.R.G.M. are also marked 'A'

          So there!

I agree with François and Rich, and I might add that it's common to find such badges with two A's in addition to DRGM. My pilot badge and unqualified aerial gunner badge have A's on the wreath and eagle, but my pilot observer has two A's on the wreath and nothing on the eagle. I might add that my A DRGM pilot badge has a Buntmetall wreath; the eagle may be aluminum but I'm not sure.

If I am not mistaken the A and the DRGM were on a female back die leaving a raised A and DRGM with the aluminium badges.

I assume the tombak badges were not so easy to stamp with that raised lettering at the back, so they just started smacking an A into it.

Ergo, as the back die had both the A and Drgm engraved it is unlikely that you will find one missing the DRGM unless it was dropped deliberately at some stage.

I am at work reading the book of vladimir B Ulyanov (rusfront)called "collecting Third Reich Belt Buckles - a russian perspective" and I have noticed 2 interesting buckles
A- page 80: Aluminium buckle attributed to the Imperial Ministry of occupied easternern territories (RMBO)
                            Prototype design by Asmann
                            Marked "A" D.R.G.M.
B - page 105 & 106 : Buckle for Officer of the German State Railway (Deutsche Reichban)
                            Manufactured from Aluminium
                            Marked "A" D.R.G.M.
                            "40" for 1940.
