I'll add a quick comment based on past observations.

These guys were, and probably remain, long-time friends and associates. They traveled in the same small circles and rarely commented on one another or the items one might be selling. They are both extremely knowledgeable collectors and dealers, however they didn't always agree with one another just like we here do not always agree with one another on matters.

I would not expect Carsten Baldes to feel obligated in any way or expect him to honor any COA signed by Detlev Niemann (or anyone else for that matter) anymore than I would have expected Detlev to honor one of Carsten's past COA's.

The business was sold, not the liability for past sales.

And I simply quoted the opening post which makes it sound like CB is covering DN's COA's! I still as I posted wonder what will come of these COA's when called out that were attached to questionable items?

        Hi Kevin,

I certainly meant no offense to anyone with my comments.

IMO, any COA is only worth the cost of paper it's printed on. If a seller/dealer offers a money-back guarantee and they choose to honor it if there are problems later on, then good on them but, would you honestly honor any guarantee that someone else issued, even if the item was clearly known "now" to be a reproduction?

I see many dealers offering "lifetime" guarantees and it usually means their lifetimes or life in the hobby. My guess is, they're now worthless, other than showing to future buyers that at one point in time it was deemed "good" by someone renoun in the hobby/business.

        R,
        Tim

No worries Tim! I have only one item, An Early Wiedmann EKI in the collection with Detlev COA, bought it from a fellow collector and he sent the coa along. The cross is no doubt good and the coa worthless IMO!
My thoughts were centering around some questionable items pinned with coa's. I remember a thread here about EKII's Detlev was selling as Juncker crosses, Crosses were good, possibly not Juncker made though! Also some Oaks that were sold and now questionable....
I have a friend with a questionable U Boat badge being discussed here on waf in the Kreigs section. Will be interesting to see what else surfaces and what if anything ever comes of it?
          Best Regards!
          Kevin
