6 out of 8 is a pleasant surprise considering that I didn't knew the difference between a Pilot badge and a Para badge 6 months ago.

I have now seen my mistake in the first 7 , tried to be too quick I guess.

Thanks Skip for a great and educational quiz . I am looking forward to the answers.

Well Ivan got all the first 7 right, which is´nt very suprising really.
Well done Pascal, just the silly GWL was wrong, and I´m sure you knew it really.
Shall I post the backs or is it enough to know that Ivan got them all right?
Anybody else want to guess the pilots?

                Hi fellows,
Can someone give me a quick runthrough of what features to look for to tell these babys apart? I see differences of course but what are some defining characteristics?
                Thanks, Sal

                  Hi Sal,

                  you can ask questions!
Every maker has his own little traits that help to identify him. I will give you some pointers.
Pic 1. IMME, all of these are made by Juncker but Immes eagles take on a very typical silver/green hue when the black has faded. Look especially at the pilot and Air Gunner badges here. The Observer and Para are both typical Juncker pieces and could be easily mistaken for such.
Pic 2. Deumer. Again the Pilot and Observer are made by Juncker but stamped Deumer. The big giveaway here is the typical Deumer Para.
3: Assmann. Very typical Assmanns, especially the wreath is an easy way to identify all Assmanns, the big giveaway here was the Para badge though, a design you will only find on Assmanns
4: Juncker. All typical Junckers, once again the design of the eagles and the typical Juncker wreath give these away. On the Para look at the talons, see how the first one holding the swaz has been filed away. You can see this on my Imme Para as well, also typical juncker
5: GWL. The design of the eagle on the Pilots badge is very specific and can only be found on GWL or the unknown maker. The eagle on the Observer is very typical for GWL
6:BSW. Look for the squat eagles on the pilots badges and the flat pointed leaves on Para and Air Gunner
7: B&NL. A specific eagle on the Pilots badge gives this group away.

Sal, these are only a few pointers, best is to take these pics to your archives and look at them over and over again, eventually you will be able to place most badges in the Luft series to a maker.

                    Hi Skip,
Thanks much! I was without a computer for a while so sorry for my late reply. I am still a bit confused though. Junker made badges for all those other firms? Why? Why do they have differences then? Boy this is confusing.
                    Best, Sal

                      Hi Sal,

we ASSUME that Juncker made a lot of parts for badges but did´nt have enough contracts to sell them. It would make sense for them to offer parts (eagles, wreaths) to other manufacturers to use. Especially JMME seemed to use only juncker parts, just finishing themselves, so there is specualation that JMME was only a subsiduary company of Juncker. Just why such a large firm as Deumer bought parts from Juncker I don´t know, I can only speculate that it was maybe cheaper than making them themselves.
