    the brothers

    Hello,

    And here is the above posted badge (to the left) besides another unmarked BSW glider pilots badge (to the right).

    The right piece is also directly received from its original recipient and is more worn condition as the left one. Striking however is the magnificent detail and the ressemblance between these two, both are in buntmetall, both did loose their catch during the wartime years, both where awarded between 06-1941 and December 1941, etc ... etc ....

    Cordial greetings and enjoy

    ps: sorry for the bad picture quality

      Great tombak piece with super nice patina, dear friend !

      I thought 2 dozen of them now you have ?

      BSW used dry alloy for these badges.

        BSW glider pilot badges

        Hello,

        Thank you my friend => IMHO you never have enough of these badges (as long as they are original )

        I once sold such a BSW badge a few years ago towards a Belgian collector => he since then did stop his Glider interest and did move the badge on, as far as I know that particular badge is now back in the country where it was once produced. That particular badge was the only near perfect unmarked BSW badge that was offered during the last 2 years.

        Strangest thing of all was that a few people did not even believe in that badge => well im pretty sure they feel sorry for that now

        Anyway iff the current owner wants to show his badge, then we have the unique effect off no less then 3 unmarked BSW Glider pilots badges in one thread

        Cordial greetings,

          Hi Stijn,

          In the absence of the current owner I'm sure he won't mind me posting this badge for him. I had the pleasure of taking care of it for a couple of days before it started his final journey to the motherland.

          Current owner I'm sure you'll make yourself public tomorrow
          On second thought I think it's better you don't that way I'm the only one he knows where the beauty lives at the moment.

            Beauty

            Hello Phillipe,

            Indeed => that is the badge and the most fun part is that this badge first faced about 2 years ago here in Belgium on a show, since then the current owner is the 4 th person who has it in his collection since these past years.

            Anyway i can confirm that this badge is 100 % original and the price for such original pieces will soon beout of reach for most collectors (thats the sad part of the story) , but at least the current owner did buy it for a more then reasonable price

              If it isn't too much trouble, may I see the backside of this badge? Also, what is the going rate of these badges in Euros or dollars?

              Thank you!

                Glider badges

                Hello,

                @ Rolf : The reverse of the badge that Philippe does show is the same in consturction, etc ... as the on you find at the beginning of this thread.

                The pricing point is something that is relative offcoarse and all depends on the what you are prepared to give. So do not pin yourself on these as it is a rato towards the prices you see these days and they are what i use as a guide.

                I rate nowadays for about the following :

                * Buntmetal ones (maker marked = for example C.E.Juncker) : 2500 €
                * Buntmetal ones (non maker marked, etc ... ) : between 1000 and 1500 €
                * Zinc pieces (all depending on the maker mark and producer) : between 1000 and 1250 €

                * large eagle variant : whatever you want to give => normally between 3000 & 4000 €

                So roughly the prices can vary between 1000 & 4000 €, iff you even find (a original) one !!!!!!!!!!!

                Cordial greetings,

                ps: for your enjoyment +> anotehr big love (Zinc piece, made by Juncker, non maker marked) directly obtained from the veteran (former member of the LW.Feld.Rgt. Barenthin in Africa, but that is another story !!!!!!!)

                    Stijn,
                    What I like about your badges is that they all have a legitimate story about them. I am sure that you have went to great lenghts to try and document all of the items in your collection. It truly makes a difference when you share the item with fellow collectors. Thanks for sharing this badges history with us.

                      Dear Stijn,

                      Great piece. I am still looking forward to obtaining my first glider badge!

                      Am I to understand that there are only a few thousand of these arund? I knew they were rare but I was unsure how rare (since I see many for sale, which I am sure are repros).

                      Thanks for showing another great piece.

                        Glider badges

                        Hello,

                        @ Jan Arne, i have never encountered one with the makermark that you reffer towards but please post some pictures and then we can go further (mayby a idea for a new thread ? )

                        @ Gary, it is my pleasure to show these fine pieces. The glider pilots badge should be considered very rare IMHO. There are no exact numbers of awards known at this point but the awarded pieces should be arround 2000 according to what i have found.

                        The rarity off the awarded badges can be very easely shown in the fact that you almost never ever find a award document for such a badge or a entry of the badge in Wehrpass aka. Soldbuch.

                        As with all german militaria the market of these is flooded with fakes and taking the high prices these bring it is quite clear that such badges are a minefield !!!!!!!!

                        Cordial greetings,

                          Hi Stijn !

                          Thanks for reply .
                          Great thread with great info about Glider Badges this one .
                          I saw this JMME marked Glider in a Norwegian Collection , I have pics of badge but I have to ask the Collector if I`m allowed to post pics here .
                          I aslo think that this Collector is a forum member or has been a forum member , so perhaps he drop in and post some pics .
