    Hello Winston,

my sarcasm is not being used as a form of wit here. I am using it to try and get you to review your mind set on this one and hopefully see how narrow the criteria is that you are applying to the question.

Not all collectors who have been collecting this stuff for more years than I care to remember are fools who were taken in by tall storied veterans. Some had the ability to cut through the rubbish and properly document the history when they got the item. They are an important link between then and now which we only have a limited number of years to obtain for future collectors.

Of course you can also understand why some refuse to post on this forum because an incorrect condemnation, mis-quotation and breach of security of what they have or say.

I can see that you are convinced by what has been published to date and that you have nice badges based on that which is great but it has been my experience that there is never one book on a subject and that knowledge in all fields is an on-going process which in many cases changes over time as new findings are made or theories put to the test.

The danger is exactly what I now feel that there is little point in posting my badges because the judge and jury have already decided.

Now you tell me which is the better approach, close our minds and I will just quietly put my badges in the rubbish bin so no one has to suffer them any more or do we keep an open mind to new possibilities beyond what we already thought we knew,

    Chris

            Hello,

well I was a bit surprised today when Winston sent me a PM apologising if he had offended me. I was not expecting that and did not think he had done anything wrong. If anyone should be apologising then it should be me because I have stated my opinion too strongly and I am getting grumpy as I get long in the tooth.

so no offence taken Winston and none meant as you can now probably tell I feel quite certain about my ball hinge glider because of who I got it from. Anyway lets leave the ball hinge for a thread devoted to that badge and get back on with the "L/11" retired pilot.

In fact Winston's PM made me realise that it is important to post some of my badges so all can see, review, learn and hopefully agree or at least get on.

Have asked ebony to take some pictures and post the images for me. I have also tried to compare a couple of features of this badge with some other Deumer badges I have so we can begin the study of the manufacturer's footprints of the badge. An approach Tom Durante favours. I support Tom's type of approach on this one because this would seem to be the only way to advance the study of these.

Please keep watching and I will add a couple of comments to the images ebony posts,

            Chris

7 The pin is the same blue colour as on a late Deumer zinc airgunner/ radio operator badge but a lot of it has worn off.

9 Here the hinge on the "L/11" is compared with the hinge on a later war zinc "Deumer" air-gunner/ radio operator
