Just back from the MAX show and I must say, this was the absolute best show I have ever attended. For those of you who didn't go, you missed one hell of a show my friends! Lots of the typical fakes, but I found many gems. I also found that the dealers were willing to negotiate on prices, if you went about it the right way.
It was a show, just like any other, but for me it was one filled with some really good finds and some excellent deals. Some of these oldtime dealers that don't follow the forums or even both to get on the internet just sometimes do not know what they have. Many continue to price unmarked, but ultra-rare badge for less then much more common marked variants. And the plethora of fakes make many dealers question everything they have on their table, and therefore price everything at a good discount just to move their items. It is here that those of us who study badges day in and out can really rack up some great pieces at great prices! Luck also has a lot to do with it and I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time more than once
Along with several IABs, PABs & a GAB, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon this rare beauty, an early thin-wreath Juncker Pilot Badge. This badge was literally sitting at a table surrounded by 5 or 6 fake Pilot badges. One glance at the table and I saw all the fakes and just continued to walk past, but then something caught my eye. This Juncker was barely peeping out from beneath the price tag and it was enough to stop me in my tracks and ask for a look. I literally studied her for 10 minutes, not believing that amongst all these fake badges was this early, and absolutely original Juncker bird!
The best part is that this badge was actually marked CHEAPER than one of the fakes sitting next to her! It was the typical banana beak fake, on a dip-wreath assmann wreath with the long cutout between its legs made out of aluminum or something similar. After I bought the Juncker, the dealer asked for my opinion on the fake. I told him it was a pretty common fake if he would care to do a search on the internet, but his reply was "I don't need to get on the internet, I have been collecting for 40 years!" He also said that there was no way the badge could be fake because the fakes "aren't this good, and they are not made from aluminum"!!
Some of these guys are unreal...I just love it

beauty is all that can really be said. How were you able to carry all of those badges out the door? You get a shopping cart?
