Tom,,Excellent work! The Assman observer is my absolute favorite
of all TR badges,,I have only 2 so far but want many more!!

Mike thanks, I did a search on a 'dipping wreath' and I think I may see
what you guys mean,,but I'm just not sure,,could some one please photoshop a circle on one and give me a brief demo??
    I would really appriciate it!

Also,,did Assman use the same wreath as on the para's and pilots/po's???
and does the dipping wreath fake always have the lower vein of the second leaf missing???
    Thanks!

Heres on of my Assman beobachter's!

Here's an extreme example of a dip wreath on a pilot badge (photo from the repro forum). Note how the wreath takes a pronounced "dip" at the bottom where the leaves and band meet.

            Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.

Gentry, I don't think this was made by Staegemeir. According to the owner of the badge, its been in his collection for 20+ years, and I doubt Staegemeir was active back then. However, its the same old process that he is using today, so its threads like this that show how a good database of reproductions can easily reveal fakes that have laid dormant in collections for many decades. Many of these badges were acquired by local dealers and "guys they trusted", but with the relatively recent advent of the internet, these pieces are slowly being vetted and identified as the fakes they most certainly are.

Just for clarification, the B&NL fake and the 2nd Assmann fake I posted did NOT come out of Privetera's book. I thought this was pretty clear in the thread, but just incase anyone had a question about it, these were not in Stephen's book at all. Only the fake Assmann Observer marked 800 was mistakenly featured in the book as an original.

            Thanks guys.

            Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
