Hi Guys, has anyone seen a stamped version of an 'Assmann' PB were the barrel has a nipple and the bird is growing a beard ?

Nothing to worry about IMO. Here is a close up of the eagles head on one of my Assman's. You'll notice that there is also a little waste material left under the eagles beak.
John, any chance of getting a weight on your badge. The reddisch color visible on the observer leads me to believe that this might be another Kupal Assmann.
And one other question, I suppose your catch is just fixed by solder without the use of a catchplate. Was the solder spilled on to the grass area?

Hi Philippe, Well, not a catch plate as such, but there seems to have been a piece of plate metal soldered to the badge, giving a flat platform, and then the catch soldered to that.
I've outlined the the piece of metal in red and the soldered catch in blue...Comment

Very strange, never seen anything like it certainly taken in to account that the plate seems to have such in irregular form.
Just one other thing I just noticed John, tried to highlight it in green on you picture (still strugling to make nice circles with my new trackball mouse but did not yet manage). It seems that in that area different layers of metal are visible. Is this so and are these layers part of the badge or is it just the sheetmetal of the catchplate showing in that area?

Looks to be the catch plate which is bent back.. certainly not a standard plate, perhaps the person who finished the badge thought it better to place a plate, between the badge & catch, as he had met problems with other badges in soldering the catch directly to the badge.. The silver frosting/wash covers the plate, leading me to believe that it's not replaced but original.. Something new for your reference files, Philippe...

Indeed it is, and I would agree that it's not a repair since the finish over the solder matches the rest of the badge.
And since the sheet metal seems part of the catchplate I'm still not sure if it's a kupal version or not. When you look at in profile can you see different layers like on the badges posted in this thread

My guess would still be Kupal also taken in to account the typical black patina clearly visible on the reverse.

Hey, Philippe, no problem... I find it all fasinating.
Took a scan of the edge of the badge and lo & b'hold the "Kupal Sandwich" appears... Also interesting to note, after reading the thread, that the 'catch plate' is shown on other badges, perhaps showing the characteristics of a particular worker at Assmanns...Comment

Its indeed another Kupal badge and thanks for the tip on the catch baseplate. I suppose it was on Jan's badge you noticed it, at least I think I can see it on his badge. Can you confirm this Jan?
