Has anyone ever seen any flight clasps(such as short range day fighter for example) with tapered fluted points soldered to the backs (3 on both sides) next to the 2 holeson each side.. to support and strengthen the badges(holes being drilled and not cast) . I saw one like that, and even saw the same points on the back of a luft ccc ...wich is supposedly a rare clasp, and also controversial. Just curious if possibly some manufactureres did that when they found the badges tended to break at that weakest poing where the holes are, until they changed them to be thicker, or are those types just repros. ??

... also on the back of a luft ccc ? ..
Clasps might look weak, but when used in a normal way they'll never break..
Some late war zink didn't have holes at all, which makes them even stronger.
Several clasps even did survive a crash, bent all over, but not broken.
Most clasps which are broken were in hands of collectors with less knowledge.., the only worthless, old fashion trick they know is to bend a badge to find out if it's a lead one..
Over the years I've seen many broken beauties which were ruined by these woodchoppers.

now ill get in close on this other SRDF badge..first i wanna say ive seen fakes, with the same style arrow front, and they are different on construction, no points on back, and smaller in size by much , different pin, and hinge, hook etc.. The points are all soldered seperately, arrow is press peaned, wear on the pin where it meets the hook, holes all drilled not cast, and without further adue...hang on a few before you tear this a new one...you may be as brutal as you wish, im just trying to figure out why theres so much workmanship in this badge, especially if its not an original, seems stupid to go to all that trouble, seems the purpose was to reinforce a weak design....so could this have been one makers style discontinued because of too time consuming to make...so lets see what comes up for this pointback badge. Its something like 11 piece construction...it also was in a vets estate, (wich as we know doesnt always measn anything), but it has me wondering what the heck...?? I do know all repros are made on a copy of an original, so ............??Last edited by juoneen; 06-03-2009, 02:17 AM.
