    Hi Everyone,

Can somebody please help me ID this Flak badge? I've tried to find a match but without success.

    All the best,
    Toby.

Thanks for the swift reply, Mark.

Is the hinge a variation for this maker?

      Best,
      Toby.

Toby , i think this is the standard hinge used on all of these , but don't quote me on this as Marc (flak88) might be able to shine more light on this

Sorry Mark, I actually meant the plate beneath the hinge. I found your one searching the forum and it is different if I'm not mistaken. The hinge itself does look to be the same.

Toby , i see what you mean now , on the two i have both are just heavily soldered , the same as the ones in Marc's book , is it definately a plate or a cleaned area of soldering ?

Unfortunately, I only have photos. I assumed it was a plate but perhaps it is the solder.

WOW - nice S&L with a most intersting plate! Can we get a shot of it? I like it and find these minor variants fascinating. I need to get out more...

I look forward to the pics - definately looks like an oval plate and not solder. Check the swas for the die-flaw when you buy it.

                          Mark,
I'm just glad you like it. I wrote it for the love of the badge and my Opa. God knows I may never get out from under the debt of printing it, but it was my baby!

                            Hi guys,

The hardware on this one reminds me of 1957 hardware, with that squatty block hinge and thick pin. The details on the obverse also look pretty soft, specifically the eagles talons.

The small oval hingeplate was sometimes used by Deumer on what is considered wartime zink badges, so its possible that S&L also used it, but in combination with that squatty little hinge, I think it may be a postwar put together piece. Here is a similar hinge on a postwar Souval glider badge, marked L/58 (solderered eagle) as well as an umarked fake glider.

                            Tom

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
