I'm afraid this badge is no good...

Appears to be a copy made from badge 1.14 in the Weber book (pg 70) with a GB maker mark...

Agreed. Never seen a three rivet G.B. Here's one I used to own...

IMO maybe it's mm 3 , GB mark was engraved in modern time~~i have saw some sample mm 3 before.

The front of the badge is not like G.B.s either.

Any ideas here?? Is the badge a total fake? I find that hard to believe?

Sorry to say that IMO the badge is a total fake.. The obverse of the badge appears to be made from (trying to copy) a completely different type of Luftwaffe ground assault badge, one which is not attributed to the well known maker of period TR awards Gustav Brehmer (GB). The badge has crude finishing over-all, especially around the eagle and other spots which you wouldn't normally find on genuine examples and the detail appear soft and similar but ultimately incorrect (for example check out the shapes of the rocks where the lightning bolt reaches the ground in the design - compare it to authentic examples as well as the detail on the eagle). Then the reverse of this badge is attempting to look like a GB with the badge hardware setup and a poorly copied "GB" makers mark (despite the fact that the front design type is not at all like a GB badge)... Then the 3 rivet construction is unlike authentic GB badges and unlike the badge that the obverse of this badge tries to mimic.

Here is another photo of a correct GB badge:

Here is another nice (authentic) example of a Luftwaffe ground assault badge (the type I feel was copied to make the fake badge). Notice the differing hardware which is correct for this type of badge and the lack of 3 rivets:

The 2nd photo came from mdmilitaria.com (Munster's website). I hope that neither website minds that I borrowed the above pics for demonstration purposes... If it's a problem PM me and I'll remove them from my post.

I am inclined to agree with the comments and agree that it is fake, this is the back of my GB badge. Rick

I also agree it is a fake, When looking at the lightning bolt the edges are beveled or sloped, looking at an original the edge is 90 degrees. The Eagle details such as head and talons is poor also.
I hope you are able to return this and get your money back?
