    Luft Patches

Hi I have never seen luft. patches with gold borders before.
Any idea what this was for. I think one is a Mechanic patch and the other is a radar operator ??
Thanks In advance for any help

Top is air-sea rescue, center is aircraft maintenance/engine mechanic, bottom is vehicle driver (eagle over a car radiator). I believe the silver/gold border represents years of service or supevisory level in the specific trade/duty. The center and botom patches look ok and are relatively common. The air-sea rescue patch doesn't give me a good feeling, and is somewhat tougher to find.

      Hi,

To add to what Scott has stated. As I recall, gold borders were actually awarded (accompanied with a document) for superior service. The superior service could be for performance of a job for so many months or other criteria. I beleive there were differing criteria depending on the qualification pathc.

Not all specialty pathes were authorized a gold border, but you wil find some unofficial ones, where an NCO added a border to a patch which was not authorized one by regulations. Additionally, there are some pathces that were authorized silver borders to denote NCOs in that specialty field.

From your picture the 2 you show are early bulloin versions. Later versions are in celleon.

Thanks for all of the info Guys!
What would be a fair price for these patches?? I know the ones with out any silver or gold trim are not worth too much. but I have not seen them with it for sale.

David, can you post a clearer photo, to include the reverse of each?

This is all I have until May (maybe sooner) before I will have them in hand to inspect. this is part of a old collection that has been in the attic for the last 40 years. He lives in northern Ohio and I live in Columbus. I Am having to go through a middle man for this deal
