I could see him wanting an award for his Herman Goering Division ground unit. I don't know, though. Pure speculation. Fascinating, but pure speculation on my part anyway.

Since I'm quoted, I guess I'm the one you're addressing. I never made any
comments on the Osang badge, only some remarks about my own piece. The
giveaway on mine is the catch-plate and the L/58 in a small box.

Detlev had one for sale and it sold quickly. It had the original box and it was unmarked and die struck! Does anyone know where that thread is? It was started by Rick . . stogienman Rick that is. Compare mine to Detlev's, as I said and a few others after me . . . . a few did exist!

I checked and they end at 25th of October. I had a discussion with Rick on this issue and I can't find the thread I referred to on another Forum either. Btw, did you recieve the package I sent you?

Interesting discussion! While I do not have the expertise to argue one way or the other on the existance of the Luft Panzer, am I safe in assuming that this recent ebay find is slightly fabricated? I'm new to collecting and I wouldn't have touched this one with a 100 meter pole.

The ad contained the lines: My Dad grew up in Germany during the war and according to him, it's the real thing. Purchased at an estate sale so I cannot guarantee authenticity.

100% Bogus. Not a bad attempt. Looks like they tried to copy the JFS style. I'm surprised they didn't put the makermark on the thing. Wow, and three pieces 'to boot'! Compared with some of the lead fishing weights we see, not bad.

I suppose a period photo will be the only 100% sure-fire way to prove these things were really manufactured, though that seems unlikely since the consensus opinion among the believers seems to be they were manufactured in small test batches but never issued. Anyway, we are also arguing like madmen whenever someone shows a foreign volunteer-decaled helmet or branch-piped SS visor cap in their collection. We know those existed from photos but some folks just can't accept such items are still in existence today. I suppose when I become really familiar with the structure, look, and feel of late-war issue badges in general, should I ever see a Luft PAB that has looks like it has the right stuff (i.e., No "Made in Taiwan" stamp. Don't laugh, I've seen them ) and the price isn't enough to give me the dry heaves, I just may hold my breath and take a chance.

It took almost 6 months from the institution of the Flak badge to the first awardings. That was in 1941 when things were relatively quiet. Now imagine Nov, 1944 when people are kinda busy. Look at another badge from the same period - the Luftwaffe Close Combat Clasp. These we know were autgorized from period photos and documents. BUT, they had to wear the Army badge as the Luft one was never manufactured.
