Good one, but most likely had the blitzen removed, possibly even by Assmann @ the factory.

I agree with Tim, a good Assmann. The removed bolts looks very well done and would also think it was done in the factory.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

          Air gunner badge.

This in my opinion is no good.Main point is no separation to talons which they should always be a separate space to the rear talon.Overall this is a repro.collect36

In my humble opinion, Wrong. I disagree completely. The (original RO/AG) modified badge, as explained above, does not have the distinct seperation between talons. Only a factory Air Gunner ohne Blitzen has defined seperation between the talons.

Hard to see with the black background, but the (talon) silhouette of the posted badge starting this thread, matches the silhouette of the RO/AG below, taking into consideration that a portion of the talons were removed with the blitzen.

Tom and Tim are correct. A good badge.

            Regards,
            Mark

In my opinion this badge is an original radio operator/air gunner badge that has been modified by having the blitzen removed, making it a air gunner badge. This is actually very common to encounter, as the AG was instituted at a later date and some of the existing stock of RO/AG's were simply modified to meet demand. This is not a new theory either. If you search for air gunner badges here you will see many like this from all different makers. The main point is the badge must be evaluated as a whole and not condemned because one feature doesn't seem right to you.
              Cheers,
              Brian

It is the traditional ASSMANN buntmetal/ tombak badge.
