    Lw observer badge

    Hello,
fisrt I want to present myself because I am a brand new member on this site. I am french, so please be indulgent with my english; you know that the french and the english...long history...
I am also the "webmaster" of the french website "wehrmachts.kisten".
    Ok for that.
    My question.
I have found in Germany by digging on a battlefield this LW observer badge.
All the observer badges I have seen on the net show a silver crown, and mine is gold. So, is it possible that my badge has a pilote badge crown or is it something else?
    Regards.
    J-Mi

    Hi,

No, I think the gold effect is simply alteration of the silver over a long period of poor "preservation" (ie buried). I am actually surprised to see so much finish remaining! It must have been in very nice condition when it hit the dirt for whatever reason.

    Regards
    Mike

      Hello
thank you Mike for the reply.
I think also that it could be the alteration into the ground.
This badge was found with an EK1 and a sport badge (50 cm around the observer badge, that's why I think they belang to the same guy who dropped its badges before being prisoner by the british or the americans near Schwerin).
As you can see on the pictures, they are not in the same condition...

        Hi Mi,

I agree with Mike, the discoloration of the silver plating due to soil conditions for 60 years. You can also see it on the eagle's wings, which is also silver plated.

        Nice & interesting find!

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
