Mysterious badges Poll #3, LW Round Pilot's badge

    Dear Friends,

I am sure this would be more complicated...

Enclosed two threads from this forum about the topic:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ot+badge+round

So what do you believe this is?

I still need EK1's L/14 Screwback and Pinback.

      Jani,
Has ANYONE ever seen photographic evidence? There were A LOT of pilots photographed and you can make out the makers in period pics...

I've seen this topic surface from time to time, but never any suggestions of it being a badge for female pilots. Anyone care to comment

            Hi,

I do not believe there is any photgraphic evidence to show these round variations in wear. Additionally, as far as I am aware, there isn't any proof that these badges were intended for wear by female pilots or jet pilots. Pure speculation on many peoples part.

As can be seen by the poll, it is a pretty even split on what collectors think of these badges. I do know that 3 of the "big" dealers, including one who has/had an extensive Luftwaffe collection believe in the originality of these pieces. Unfortunately, if genuine pre 45, the prices of these will remain low in comparison to their rarity until some definitive proof (picture/establishment orders etc) is discovered.

As for me....I am squarely on the fence!

Gary, this still rings true today. I have heard from several sources that pictures exist of the round wreath PB in wear, but no one has ever been able to show one as far as I know. Here is a recent thread on the topic. Personally, I like these and I don't think they can be faulted on a "forensics level" as far as base metals, finish, reverse hardware and rivets are concerned. In this case, they are very much in line with what we would expect to see on other late war Juncker-produced products such as the Heeres Paratrooper Badges and #PABs & #GABs:

But photographic evidence would sure be nice though.
