Latest Osang Para Fake by Staegemeir

Hi guys,

Thought I would show the latest Para badge fake by Carsten Staegemeir. Its an Osang, pretty well made casting of an original badge. However, the reverse and finish are all incorrect for an Osang Para.

Are all of his badges cast, or are some diestruck?

They are ALWAYS castings of originals. None of his badges are struck, but some attempt to look that way.

Here is a good attempt at a Meybauer Para. The finish and texture of the material give this away as a fake as well. Especially notice the fake shear marks on the sides, much too wide and uneven to be from a real shearing machine. Rather, he adds this in as a feature of the master mould.

To emphasize the point on the Osang, here is another of his fakes. Notice it is EXACTLY the same as the one I posted above. All of these are castings from an original badge, so all will exhibit the same exact features, but that are not necessarily on all original badges. Usually, his castings pick up features that were unique to the 1 original badge he made the casting of, those are the signs to look for. Also, he usually have problems with the hardware and finish.

His fakes are good, but if you are used to studying them, they are pretty easy to identify. BUT, you have to study his fakes. Gone are the days where only studying originals will be enough. Sad but true I am afraid.
