              Dear Thomas,

perhaps you could explain why this was a fantasy piece? for members like this chap and myself would appreciate a bit more information.

              thank you THomas.

I typically give a lot more information to go along with my opinion IF the badge is somewhat even close to what an original looks like. However, in cases like this, where the fake is so completely obvious there is no real point. You can perform a simple search and find plenty of original examples of Deumer Pilot or Pilot/Observer badges to compare yourself.

I certainly don't mind helping collectors, but it is good to also do your own searches, and I think you will find that the hobby will be much more fun for you.

Here is a good, original Deumer Pilot Badge, credited to John T. West collection. Their POs use the same eagle and wreath die as the Pilots, so both will show the same exact characteristics. Deumer is also known to be made from Juncker parts such as Juncker eagles and/or wreaths, but again, there is no comparison to the fake shown above.

The answer involves knowledge of what known originals from the known makers look like. Neither the wreath nor the eagle on this example match genuine wreaths or eagles from any known maker and certainly not Deumer.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Best to get to know the originals, rather than to analyze all the fakes. Once you know what to look for in a good badge, all the crap will be obvious.

Deumer is probably my all time favorite maker.

Hope you can get a refund Nigel! Good Luck!

Another....both of these utilize Deumer parts rather than Juncker.
