    Juncker Pilot Badge

    Hi,

This badge is part of a large collection of military items we recently purchased at an estate auction. I have a feeling it is a fake. There are several things that make me question it's authenticity, but the two things that struck me right off are the way the pin is mounted & I would expect the back of the badge to be much smoother looking. I suppose it's possible that the pin mounting is just a very bad attempt at a repair & the not-so-smooth finish is the result of bouncing around in someone's footlocker for the past 50 or 60 years, but I read somewhere that Juncker was the "Tiffany & Co" of German badge makers & this piece just doesn't look to me like it was made by the best. I have no idea what kind of metal it is made of. It's heavy. It's marked "C.E. Juncker, Berlin SW" on the back. Expert opinions appreciated.

    Thanks, Denise

It's a very bad copy and it is made of lead.. ( fishweight )..
No such metal was used for making badges.

Wow, that one is really bad. I agree, it would make a good fishing weight though.

Not a good fishing weight, too many snags. Better to give it to someone flying back from the SOS that you didn't like; then call the airline and say he's carrying throwing stars!...or trying to poison passengers with lead objects.

          You're bad

And yes, the badge is a terribly poor reproduction.

its a fake. such prestigeous badges for pilots were not poorly made. the back of the wreath and laurel is the most taell-tale sign. originals were properly finished and clean.

another thing is the eagle head. totally wrong if you compare to original pieces.

              its a fake, sorry.

Thanks to all for your honest opinions. We don't have much experience with German military items & I knew I could get good advice/opinions here.

Sasha, the bulk of the collection is US military. I posted a NSDAP Parteitag in the Tinnies forum last week Nurnberg 1929 Parteitag & will be posting a wound badge, a 25 year faithful service medal & a couple WWI era medals later this week.
