Regarding doing some self-research....I had looked at a friends book by "Tucker" (going to get that one) great book but found that they didn't have all the makers or variations also. I read most all the excellent pertinent post in the Fake Gallery by Lorenzo Brown. Also looked at other dealer sites. Even had a friend who vetted them and said "I can't tell on these..put them on Wehrmacht and the experts there will know".
I have to admit that it is real confusing to someone who doesn't know what and how to tell a real one from a "Cave Creek Special", Ingo-Enland-something Gang" or a "Charlie Snyder". On top of this well known dealers seem to be selling the same items as "original variations".

    Hi Mark,
Well I guess I didn't spend my hours of seaching and reading, trying to learn wisely prior to posting. I should have had it done in 10 minutes. Didn't work out for this dinosaur this time. Gee-Sorry!
And if this old newbie can't get help from you...that's OK no Biggie. And if nobody wants to help because I'm doing it all wrong..that's OK too.
But for me since I'm too old to change, I will continue helping all dagger collectors that I can. And Bog, it was a pleasure helping you out. To me that's what it is all about. But that's me...and that's the way it used to be...Miss those days!

But "tapping the forum for an on-line COA"? Good God Man, I thought I was just asking for an opinion.
I see other guys do that everyday here but I guess I must have got that one wrong too!

No hard feelings mate! I like to look at the glass "half full".

If your at the MAX I'll buy you a beer. We'll be across from Tom Wittmann....but all the fake medals won't be!

    Respectfully,
    -wagner-

      Wag,

You can be whoever and however you want to be. You ask for opinions, but I guess mine weren't the right ones.

Maybe I'll swing by at the MAX. I'm there Wed thru Sat.

        Dear Mark,
I really didn't mean any disrespect to you or anyone here.
I reread you post and I see what you are saying and I am truly appreciative of your well founded concern and opinion.

        Best Regards,

Mark will do anything for a beer but he is right with regard to study. Everyone has been burned at some time. There is a lot of useful information if you will look. I was OCONUS until Tuesday- did I miss the MAX? Is it next week? Like to meet you both and drink a beer if possible. Mark, you do not need to go - you already own everything there is to own except the 1st pattern aircrew and there will be none there. God knows what the airlines will charge, probably be better to drive. But a beer is a beer and adventure is around the next turn. The Spanish Cross is one of the best awards out there. Notice how they have dried up over the last several years?

              Dear Wagner,

To put it into terms you might understand better....if I started posting the following daggers that I recently bought from a dealer with a money back guarantee: SA Honor Dagger $1500 and SS Honor Dagger $2000....would you not tell me that these daggers are of exceptional value/rarity and if original are valued at 20 times the value the dealer was asking and this in itself should have been a warning sign. If entering the market as a newbie in the dagger field would you not caution me to buy some of Wittmann's or Johnson's books to learn some of the basics?

I agree that a 10 min read of any of the books on badges will not guarantee you from buying a fake, but a 10 minute glance of any German medal reference will show you that some of the pieces you have shown are complete fantasy pieces or are of such exceptional rarity that you or I will never get a chance to buy them, especially at such bargain prices.

A money back guarantee should not be your way to shop for badges....

              Gary B

P.S. My son and I wil be at the MAX and will be available for you or Mark to buy a Coke/beer!!!

                Hello Gary,
Yes, I see you point and agree with you.
99% of the time if the price is too good there is a reason...it's not what it's supposed to be.

                I agree I did it it *ss-backwards.

If someone offered me an SS Honor dagger for $2,000...I would RUN..not Walk!

All you guys have be very helpful to me and I look forward to meeting you all at the MAX.

                Kind Regards,
                -wagner-
