Jeez! The guy who invented that should be hanged right on the spot. God knows that I have seen ugly things but something like that...

          Condor Legion badge

A very good friend of mine returned from a cruise to the Norwegian fjords and was very excited to tell me that he had picked up a very nice German badge in Norway and wanted to show it to me. It was the same as the one shown but had "bats" inbetween the arms.

His family were very amused when I told him it was a "fantasy" piece. I don't know what he paid for it but he wasn't very happy!

              Dear Wagner,

This is not meant to be a dig/insult but I believe Mark Miller had the best advise for you in another thread when he recommended that you buy a reference book.

In the past few days I have seen you post questions regarding the authenticity/originality of a pictured round Luftwaffe Pilot badge, an early Aircrew badge and this piece. A simple reference book would answer all of these questions but would mainly save you from any financial commitment/mistake.

Wags - in the absence of a good reference book or two, at least spend some time in WAF's own 'reference library' http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/.

That's what happens when you leave your awards unsupervised. They start cross-breeding.

Very pleasant. I would like that all the fakes were like this.

Thank you for your all your replies Gents!
                      Yes...what a beast!

                      Dear Gary and Scott,
I know nothing on medals. I dove into this because of an unusal "iron-clad" money -back warrantee. So I don't have concerns there. Just wish more of the items were authentic.
Actually I'm not one of these guys who just constantly throws items out and says "How about this one"? I only did it because my close friend Tom passed away whom I had always consulted regarding medals since the mid-60's and he did with me on daggers.
Regarding doing some self-research....I had looked at a friends book by "Tucker" (going to get that one) great book but found that they didn't have all the makers or variations also. I read most all the excellent pertinent post in the Fake Gallery by Lorenzo Brown. Also looked at other dealer sites. Even had a friend who vetted them and said "I can't tell on these..put them on Wehrmacht and the experts there will know".
I have to admit that it is real confusing to someone who doesn't know what and how to tell a real one from a "Cave Creek Special", Ingo-Enland-something Gang" or a "Charlie Snyder". On top of this well known dealers seem to be selling the same items as "original variations".

All this is just real confusing to someone like me. But perhaps I posted too many items and if I did, I'm sorry about that. I had a few more than I wanted to have your excellent opinions on.
I am not upset regarding taking the advice on getting some "books". That is actually good advice. Just want to state that from a newbie's perspective it all looks like "Mars" when you haven't been there before. You have too look at it from the Newbies perspective. Perhaps then you may understand.
For this reason myself I never told a newbie regarding a dagger he posted to get some books. First off after spending several hundred dollars he will still have a hard time to tell if it's real. It takes time, experience and handling authentic items. And unfortunatly a newbie may just get frustrated and leave with a "Hey, I thought this was a forum...but forget it then", and we then lose a possible new collector.

Perhaps this "Condor Legion" variation was over the top but it got some laughs.
And in this stage of my life I just want to have a now and then.

I have good feeling toward all and thank you all once again for your opinions and assistance.

                      Best Regards,
                      -wagner-

                              Hi Wag,

Every collector here that survives the difficulties of this hobby, was once a newbie. We know what you think, that is why we are trying to tell you what you need to do, if you plan on staying in the hobby. I think you need to realize that we are trying to help you avoid fakes and eventually losing money, by telling you to have a clue as to what you are looking at. You can afford to buy a $1500 fake Luft badge, that if real, is worth $25,000. You could have found that out in 10 minutes time, looking through two references worth $150, and learned what it is you are looking at. We are glad you are here with us, but you ARE going about it backwards! You really are.

If a newbie doesn't show interest in learning, some people may lack interest in helping? After watching cycle after cycle of 'newbies' come through the ranks (trust me on this one) of this Forum since Seba started it, people will eventually get tired of helping another individual, if that individual is only tapping the Forum for an on-line COA.

                              Later,
                              Mark
