There are a ton of these in zinc, anybody have one in
    nickle/silver/tombak??? I know Lorenzo does.
    Anyone else???
Notice the swasi is still full, unlike many of the mis-shaped
    swasis on the zinc badges.

        Hi Tim,

I have no problems with this example, the materials, construction and die characteristics all look correct to me. They are around, in fact if I recall correctly, in one of the first forum raffles Detlev provided one as first prize! I see more of the zinc ones though. I have a PO badge like this (nickel-silver eagle, tombak wreath) which came straight from the German vet's family.

            Hi guys,

All nice looking birds that are being shown here.
I personally do not have one. Up until now I have only ever seen one of these here in buntmetal, and the rivets did´nt look as good as the ones on Tims example.

Just can´t get over the likeness to the GWL eagle!

              Hi Tim

I have one of the tombak types with what you call full swas. I has the small rivets and is quite heavy at 43 grams. It also has some fine hairline cracks on the wreath. It was once polished on the highlights but still looks pleasing.

Most of the time we see this type of badge..
Is it because it's not a populer one or did they make a huge amount of these..?
The buntmetal version looks pretty nice to me though..
I've seen some pretty P/O's..but they don't seem to be among the favorites in collectors world...
                  Why..?
                  Because they're unmarked maybe..?

                  Jos.

It's because they don't have that magical word 'Juncker' or similar on the back.

Richard, Jos, why don't they have the maker mark on the back?

As to the answer of why these badges are unmarked. Could it be that these were made under goverment contract? Maybe at the National mints. They certainly had expert engravers at these locals. They probably cranked out gobs of these after 1942, figureing the war was going to go on longer than expected. Why not? They didn't have to pay for the materials as a private company would.

I've seen the same wreath used on Observer's and Para badges. Hard to tell how many different badges they made.

What do you guys think of this theroy? Hog-wash as they say?

                            Regards

                              Hello guys,

I have one of those finished as a PB, and two finished as POB. The PB was posted some time ago; it was engraved on the back.

IMO it is an underappreciated maker. In minty condition these badges are some of the most beautiful. The riveting job suck smost of the time though
