There is no doubt, that the badge has been de-naz at some point, and someone have attached a new one.

Regarding the catch I can´t tell, but try and take a shot from this angle.

Hi Karsten,

I agree with Heinrich about the catch. It is definately NOT a Juncker factory catch, so it would have had to have been replaced. Also, these are often seen with the outer hinge 'ears' being worn down to brass. They appear quite black, and actually, should have never been black under any circumstances. They were attached to the badge prior to finish being applied, and should be silver/ worn to brass. The center of the barrel hinge and pin were black. Pretty sure.

The catch is not that far off. I'm just used to seeing them formed and detailed a different way. How about a rear photo in natural daylight without flash? The makermark looks pretty damn good. Do you see any of those small 'Junckerish' fissure cracks on the obverse wreath?

The cracks are there, look between the 3 rings of the wreath.., catch looks replaced and there's something with the swas IMO..

You are right, they are there at the wreath bottom. I guess the narcotics were clouding my vision. Go figure...

For starters on the swaz, the arms look too thin/narrow to me.

I am not comfortable with this one. In addition to the other points mentioned, I see wear on the high-points of the eagle with no signs of brassy tombak peeping through. Also the rivets are not as flattened as I'd like to see.

Too many issues with this badge...I'd move on to another.

I think it's an original J2 with a reworked (previous denazified) swastika.

Perhaps the reason we don't see any base metal coming through on the worn high spots is the eagle has been reblued--evidenced by the darker coloration and the blackening on the wreath (sloppy application) at the 5 o'clock position.

I would like to see a closeup of the swastika front and back for better looks. I had one that Detlev had sold me a long time ago that had been reworked like this and the only indications were lack of details where the repair had been done and the fact that the swastika was actually 2 mm smaller all around.

The maker's mark looks good, a little high in placement perhaps, but that may have saved it from being ruined in the repair.

My opinions anyway. I agree, I would move on as there are better ones out there.
