Hi there, welcome to the forum.

What you have here is an Observer badge made by Assmann, but I am not sure if it is original or not, so better leave that to the experts.

Badges like these are very expensive, so don't get sucked into buying any fakes. Take pictures before you buy, and post them here to make sure they are authentic.

    Good luck collecting, cheers.

Without a doubt an original and nice badge.
Made by the company of Assmann in Lüdenscheid. Thats the "A" mark on the back of the eagle.
Spun rivets mean that those brass rivets holding the eagle onto the wreath have concentric circles on them. A good sign for an original badge.

            Tony,

I agree. Nice Assman. I have a cased example that I'm sure belongs to the same generation Right down to the same maker mark and finishing filing marks on the reverse.

                Hey Darrel,

Man thats in Awesome condition. I wish I had a case for mine. I am looking for one but the odds of getting an original is probably not to good. The observer is such a good looking badge. I have read these are made out of tombak is that nickel silver?
                Thanks,
                Tony

Yeah the frost on mine has alot of wear on it. What I meant to say was does tombac have nickel silver in it? Its a nice heavy badge and I was wondering what tombac was?

No I dont have a scale. If I did I would end up weighing all the gold I sluice during the summer and it would be really depressing. Alot of work and very little gold. I will see what I can do about getting it weighed though. The guy I bought it from had a Junker Pilots badge that was not as heavy as this one. I am still kicking myself for not buying it too.
