        Ken,
Case and badge at 100.00, can't beat it, it appears to me that when those rivets were hammered on they damaged the wing. I'm glad to hear its not broke all the way thru that would lower the value IMHO.
The fake I posted looks good at a distance its much smaller than an original and has file marks from clean up after casting. It was made in the 70's a direct casting of a badge like yours. The fine detail on the eagles face is not even there the feather detail is lacking too, it doesn't bend and the finish was done well but when its in hand you can see the difference. Goes to show you have to be careful buying things just from photos because it looks good on the PC screen.

            Case...

Looks like somebody took a piece of sandpaper to it. That sorta scares me.

Can you get the lower interior to lift out??

              Dear Ken,

The hinge on your badge is not so unusual and is one of two types found on that type pilot´s badge. Here is mine with the same type hinge.

About the case: Looks ok at first sight but the sandpaper merks Tim mentioned are indeed a bit scary. I think we really need to get to the bottom of this (if you can lift the tray easily).

              Cheers, Frank

I'm with Frank on this one... Both types of hinge (block and barrel and Oval plate) are correct for these late badges.. I have seen crude, cast copies with square plate hinges and think that the crudeness and the square hinge plate show the difference between the good and the bad...
here's one of mine for comaprison...
                Warmest Regards ... John

I believe those with the block hindge are earlier and those with the barrel type are later war. Also it would appear that both round and oval catch plates were used. The rivets on these are sometimes found neat and nicely rounded while others look out of shape.

My P&O has a slightly bubbled finish to the eagle. Almost like it's lifting off. These later badges in zinc are sort of crude IMO.

                            Hi,
the case looks fake..,the glue isn't the real thing IMO..
The badge however is good,so is still the price...

That is a fake case, Ken. Can someone post a pic of what a real one looks like for Ken and others. I am fresh out. In agree that the badge is real, so your still ahead of the game.

thanks for all the input guys, I talked him into throwing in a denazified DRL sports badge to make up for the fake case.
