You know, I otta wonder how the hell they got the eagle onto that badge. Must have used a buttload of solder as the ball-hinge eagle has an integral disc that snaps into the wreath...

Thanks for the reply..Does it mean that the badge is a put together and is it a fake?
        Thanks

          Marc,

Does the ball hinge flaks have a catch like that? I have always seen them with that flat wire catch, never a hook like this.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Yeah, that's a typical catch for these badges. Rarer than the flat wire, but still very common. The badge is a Frankenstein. Was it broken during the war and sent to Wiedmann for repair and they added their eagle and refinished it? Or did someone do this last week? No way of knowing. The COMPONENTS are absolutely real. How they got together is anyone's guess. I will say the ball attachment system is fairly complex so I am shocked to see such a setup. They must have used a ton of solder...

              Marc,

Looking at the first post, the eagle is lying very flat against the wreath. Perhaps they ground this integral portion from the back of the eagle, and soldered. ??

The standard ball-hinge eagle had the injtegral disc, this Wiedmann would have a pin. I am sure it is easy to snip it and solder, and I have no problem with the badge, it is just a Frankenstein. Stuff happens...not everything is tectbook, but to know WHY is important.

OK, now I see. It would have taken a few ounces of solder to fill this recess in the ball flak wreath. I got it. This reminds me of that 1st pattern Juncker with the crack in the eagle. There's a possiblity that this is the same scenario, only worse, and is a period repair. Like you say, Marc, who really knows?

I found a badge like this today, it looks almost identical.
Seems to have some cast marks on the reverse of the eagle
