    Luft Badges

    First off, I am normally a cloth collector, I have some badges, but I always thought if them more as uniform decorations. But the oppourtunity appeared to pick these three up.

    From what I was able to find here on the forum, the pilot badge should be fine. it has several of the known good charachteristics. It looks like the 'bridge' was actully hand finished away. But I just wanted to get your opinions on these, and if any one might know who made the P/O badge, and teh what the significance of the numbers on the Observer badge might be? I can see why you guys like these kinds of pieces. I may have to expand my collection horizions...

    I think the PO has been associated with FLL.

    The #'s on the Observer I'm not sure about, but would guess a feld post #?

      All look good to me you might want to try searching for the number scratched into the rear of the observer as a feldpost number it might give you the guys unit. The PO as already stated is believed to be made by FLL

        I have a few concerns on the pilot badge as there are a few things that don't follow the standard features from this maker.

        As for the observer, could the numbers be a feldpost number?

          I agree; I'm not convinced the pilot badge is good. Perhaps a better face-on shot of the maskers mark would help.

            I guess upon closer look, that pilot may not be as good as I first thought. That catch looks incorrect for this maker. Shouldn't it be a '?' shape?

              I´m not that worried about the catch George. That catch is sometimes used on the Assmann AG/RO. It might even be the same catch that is used on the Observer, just not tooled. But of that I´m more unsure.

                Karsten, yep, that's correct for an Assmann, but the BSW's catch should look more like the one in this thread.

                      I'll post some photos after I eat something, snowshovelling makes me hungry...
                      but teh maker is spelled out, with umlauts, but no AG. The curved pin hook is pretty typical of this maker, and I noticed some of the same die marks on the eagle. There was a pretty good thread here I found on these that listed and compared several types.

                          I like the Observer 100%. The Pilot = . Those unmarked (FLL) P/Os generally have very sharp detailing to the eagle's wings and chest feathers. This one appears not to have that trait. Maybe just the image sharpness, not sure. I do see things I like in the P/O.

                            In my searching of other posts, I have found a few other BSW pilots with the "C" type catch, and written out name without AG & Umlauts. Could this possibly be a "Third" type? There are many consistancies with the maker on other points. It just seems odd to me that a faker would do some of the finer points ( Beak, claws, wings, pin, removing the "bridge", etc. ) and not some of the major points ( Catch, marking, etc. ).

                            But I was shcoked by how many fakes there are of these BSW badges.

                            I'll try to take some better pics of the P/O to be sure. As I am not a badge guy,so I want what I do have to be right.
