An interesting note to all cased Assmann's: in an interview with Mr. Assmann he stated he did not recall ever having purchased hard shell cases for his Luft awards !
The reason being they were far too expensive and a case compared to a badge cost more to purchase than to make his badges !!!
His prefered option were cardboard cartons with an array of labels designating awards. The labels differed over the *years.
However, he's older than god and his memory isn't the best.....that much I'll say.
*This revelation has to be discussed again in greater detail to establish if this was for all the wars duration or not ! I found out though where many of the local makers had their cases made !!!
This box below is a latter sorts, which can also be found for the Flak and Pilot badges, others in this guise are the Para and that has also been encountered in an earlier box/label form too.

There's only one badge in there that's a combat badge, the flak. The rest are JUST qualification badges.
