    Recent Flak Find

    Hi all,

I just found this zinc flak badge last week, the piece that was forever a 'suspect' piece, until Marc (Flak 88) ID'ed it in some recent sent photos someone had supplied him for his new book. I beleive it's still without a known maker, but Marc has unofficially dubbed it the 'Petz' flak badge, for reasons I'll leave for him to reveal. I've seen this badge with the needle pin, but the hardware on this piece is more like what you would see on a Kriegs badge, possibly some leftover pieces put to use...??? Magnetic iron pin, brass barrel hinge, and brass catchplate and hook. The eagle is soldered to the wreath. I haven't weighed it yet, but will do so if anyone is interested.

One more shot with the light from above to catch the details of the eagle a little better...

Great find Robert - hopefully this variant reverse will help us ID the maker.

The pin looks very much like the type used on the L/53 Hyman minesweeper badge..

Thank you very much, Doug. I'll look it up in the search, unless you have a photo handy.
