Interesting tidbit of info. There was a civil war revolver factory near my home. Dance Bros Lancaster, Texas. They of course made revolvers for the Confederacy during "The War of Northern Aggression ". What is interesting is that in the creek bed behind the old factory site they have recovered many many unfinished discarded original Dance Bros revolver parts. Just an interesting bit of history that fits nicely here.

Don't jump on the train too fast Jimmy...we have some work to do before a story becomes fact.

        Why not A.S.?

Because A.S. is not Gablonz and this whole thing hinges on that. Of course A.S. is (for me) one of the top two or three for the ball-hinge.

A.S. was possibly located in a suberb of Gablonz- Gruenwald. It was less than 1 km from Gablonz and has probably been absorbed by now.

OK, Mr. Geography... Good one Don. Well, I have always though A.S. or RK were the most likely for these. But is this questionable wreath enough to make a link to either? i think not.

Marc, I always thought that thread showed great promise. We all worked so hard on it.

We just need to keep at it. Wiedmann is a great example.

I was skeptical when this thread first started as you were too. Given the wreath design what are the odds this guy would pick this one from an unknown maker and claim he found it in Gablonz? I think it might be the Rosetta Stone for understanding wh A.S. was and where he was located. We need to know the location of the find for sure.
I'm sure more than one poorly made example hit the trash pile. I think the reverse gouge probably killed this badge in quality control. Since it isn't zink it must be an early one if real, correct?

Why no cut-out for the ball-hinge? It should have been part of the die:

Or was it punched out as part of the next step?
