Here are the eagles the US veteran cut from a command flag. He did not have the room to save the entire flag.

As to the posted flag, it is for Hermann Gorign Regiment. A bunch of flags were sold by a dearler from France and many collectors believe these to be post-war, because of the seller. I am still thinking they may be original, from comparison of my known original eagles.

Those posted by Bob are a match for the one I posted... maybe the person who brought up the question has more info that supports his position he would like to share. Here is the link to mine.

BTW Thanks for posting Gene... maybe Jos will put in his thoughts?

              another one...

I took this one in trade from a guy that owed me money.(well screwed me out of some money) but that's a story for another time.

The general consensus I received on it was as Bob said, that it was from a dealer in France and believed to be no good. same hardware, same tag, same maker number.

Interesting that Bob's top eagle has a much thicker swazi than the rest shown.

I had always hoped it was good, but its still sits in my "mistake" drawer. Maybe evidence will show these are "old stock" and it will be no longer be hidden in the drawer.

Based on ones I have seen and handled, including some directly from George Petersen, I believe this style is perfectly OK.

This may have been mentioned earlier, but shouldn't such items have a clear plastic covering on them to protect them from the elements?

                    Hi Scott,

I think these are un-issued so no protective covers in my opinion.

The examples that Bob posted have much better details...for example look at how crisp the edges of the swastika are...IE the lines are straight and not sloppy. The paper labels on both pieces are a turn off for me and I see these at shows for sale from the "usual suspects" in the one hundred dollar range...also if you have felt wartime cotton you can get a feel for the difference, just my humble opinion...you really have to watch these pennants they come in so many versions these days....it can be a tough call but seeing them for sale at shows from guys that sell fakes and at low prices is very "enlightening".

Don't know if this will help at all, but at least it's safe to assume it's real...

Thanks Tim I think it does because it proves that this type of attachment did exist.

What do you guys think about this much simpler design?

Interesting that it has also been cut out.....

To be honest, these pennants aren't my field, sorry..
They might've been if pilots had been wearing them on top of their flightcaps.

... but just like all machine woven stuff I think that studying the weaving should/could give some clues..
For example, fake breast eagles show a much more loose weaving technique than originals..
Material of the flag ? stitching (technique).. war/postwar thread ?

I think they might be quite a study.., but the field is small, so ,unfortunately there's less to compare.

One thing I know for sure, the guy who cuts these things is a real maniac !

                              Jos.
