    Ball-Hinge FLAK for review

    Hello all,

Is this one zinc? The majority of the badge looks like it is but the barrel on the 88 looks like it could be tombak. Anyhow, what is a good price to pay if this is in fact a good one? I already have a phone call into the seller.

Please let me know either way. Thank you.

ZINC $250 or maybe a little less depending on the in-hand condition.

              Marc,

Don't have any more images from pvluger as they are removed from this site:

              http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h69/hbermude/

but do you remember this one, perhaps FLL for a maker?

From memory, what was this one worth?

Please let me know either way. Thanks.

              Bill

I do not remember. A zinc Flak is anywhere from $200-300 in my opinion, depending on condition. A Tombak $300-450 and a case up tp $200 - all condition dependent.

                  Marc,

Any idea who the maker is to these ball-hinged flak? Can we honestly attribute them to any of the ball-hinged IAB's or GAB's?

                        possibly.

Let's wait for Marc (Flak 88)

There are a number of possibilities. Adolf Scholze, A.S., RK, and a couple others have an outside shot, though these are the leaders. While I personally believe Adolf is the most likely one I have no proof and it could be any one of these makers.

Regardless, the ones in Tombak are, in my opinion, the best made Flak Badges - period.

Is there a difference between the ball hinge with a round top and a ball hinge with a flat top? For instance, a shared die for the badge; thus being two different makers?

Please let me know either way. Thank you.

The hardware was seperate from the die. There is a Tombak die and a zinc die with VERY minute differences. The Tombak USUALLY comes with the flat top and the zinc with round, but this is not a hard and fast rule and I have seen both ways, though rarely. I don't have my book in front of me but I think there were 5 variations to this maker's badges.
