    Hi Guys,

Just a little tought on this badge. In my opinion and taken in to account that it is a marked Juncker badge it should be cataloged as custome made and may well be absolutly unique or at best part of a little special order.

I would compare it with what is offered today by some exclusive car manufacturers. You can by a Porsche out of the cataloge and choose your options at the dealer or if you want something very exclusive, your budget is unlimmitted, and you have good relation with the factory you just go to Stuttgart and they will make you whatever you want as long as your wallet is up to it.

So I would think that this badge is a commisioned peace made on demand or as a gift to a very highranking luftwaffe officer or some aristocrat pilot with very good relations to the Juncker factory.

For all we know H. Goering himself might have ordered it he sure had a reputation for collecting exclusive stuff

    Enjoy your badge Skip

PS: just thought of an other possibility. This is some kind of prototyp, or show peace where Juncker wanted to proof what they were capable of if there was a demand for that kind of custome made Pilot badges

      Hi Guys,

thanks for all the replys and thoughts.
I knew this was going to be a controversial piece when I bought it.
I am just about certain that it is good, remember I have it in my hands.
I will do some comparison pics with my standard JI but this weekend has now turned into a working weekend (gotta do some overtime to pay for the badge)
Pieter I donĀ“t think this was at the Stuttgarter show, this is a small dealer that I got this from. I have known him many years and he did give me a story about buying it from the family, but we all know about storys.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I read that Tim liked it, that is a good sign for a start.
When I get a chance I will do the photo comparisons and measure them up.

Thanks for all the comments. Skip

Since Tim has included that pic of the Air gunner/Radio op Juncker in 800 silver, that makes me ask then why is this J1 so different on the back from the classic Juncker features? It's obvious that when Juncker makes a badge that can be found in tombak or silver, the features of that badge are identical, but on this one they are not even close?

What's with the over abundance of '800' stampings? 1 on each side of the wreath!!? That is really suspicious... like the maker really wanted to emphasise that it's made from silver. Ever seen a silver piece where there are multiple silver stampings (and I don't mean on separate parts, I mean on the same component)? - I haven't...

Another question I'd raise is the actual '800' stamp... incused-relief... of all the Juncker '800' silver pieces... (Heer FJ, Spanish Cross, Radio Op...) none of these are incused-relief, but stamped plainly with the content number.

This style of incused-relief stamping makes me think of Latvia.

To be honest, so far these points are making me sway towards the bad more then it being good.

But as you say Skip, you have it in your hands and the detail on the front is definitely good... so, let's get some comparison pics and dimensions.

          Luft 800 badge

This looks like an absolutely beautiful pilot's badge! I'm not an expert on Luft badges, although I've owned many over the years--I've got a question about this one--is it a trick of the light, or has the wreath been deformed by the stampings on the left and right? Also, it looks slightly misshapen where the rivets come through--I can't tell if it's just the way the light is playing on the reverse. If it is deformed by the holes being drilled and the silver stamps, it would be an unusual trait for a hand made special piece.

            Hello Skip,

My final thoughts after reading the thread doing some research. I believe your piece to be 100% original IMHO .

Not text book by any standards and reasons well who knows, but , I think with the blessings of Pieter Verbruggen your fine.

Richard raises some good points and one thing that you have not done was provided some better pics. We have all tried to help you from what we know , but this piece has a lot of important information that we can all benefit from. So with that said as time permits please post some close ups of the maker mark, silver stampings , hinge . I for one would really appriciate the help. Dimentions and weight would also be essential.

We don't want to overthink the piece and with the information requested at least we can come up with a common sense idea.

But, inn the end it is your piece , your money and all that stuff.

If it were me I would be happy as could be to own it.

            Best Regards,
            JD

              Looks good to me

              Skip,
Looks like a nice "rare" original to me. Here's another one (not mine ) that compares favorably to yours. I will not name the owner here.

              Rich,
Keep in mind that there were badges stamped with these marks in various places on the wreath and eagle. Detlev's catalog shows some other examples as well.
