    No Marked P.o.badge

Please: I Need Your Opinions About This Badge Purchased Some Years Ago By H. Weitze.

    Silvano,

My first thought is unknown maker. It is portrayed as a tombak badge, based on the hinge and catch style. The rivets look excessive for a tombak badge. Most early tombak badges would have been makermarked, but none is present here. Problem is, it doesn't fit the design of the 'unmarked-unknown maker' (FLL?) badge, in terms of hinge, pin, etc.

    Mark

The catch may be an FLL elephant nose - can we see an oblique pic? The hinge is out of the ordinary for this maker.

This one has potential, can you take some larger pictures without the glare of the flash?

It does look a lot like an "unknown maker" but that hinge would be a first for them, can you tell if it may be a good repair/replacement?

          Hi Marc,

We are thinking the same thing about 'the connection'! The catch may be FLL. But the hinge..... no way!

Additionally, that area surrounding the left rivet looks a little suspicious?

            PO Badge

            All:

I have a Pilot Observer badge on the way to me from the Collector's Guild. It's a tombak badge and features a very similar hinge/catch configuration. It should be here in a week or less and I will post pictures upon arrival. If you'd like to take a look, here's the link:

              Shawn,

Good for you! I saw that one had sold. And it DOES have the 'elephant nose' catch (FLL) AND the barrel hinge. If that is the case, Marc will have yet another type hinge to add to the FLL connection!

              Regards,

Yes, not one but two new cans of worms opened here. I looked at Shawn's badge and its right in line with Silvano's with the barrel hinge and unknown maker features. Maybe these were very early pieces from them before they went to the block hinge??

I did notice that the wing tip cut-outs are a lot more pointed and angled on these two than on all the others out there, which are a deeper, wider saw cut on the tombak ones.

                          Silvano,
I need to see the catch from the oblique.
                          Thanks,
                          Marc

                            Silvano,

Great photos. Thanks. Maybe it is the glare from the flash, but I still do not see a repair? Maybe a close-up straight down looking at the hinge, a 90 degree shot perpendicular to the reverse. Could you shoot it in natural sunlight? That would be excellant in the identification of traces of solder. This is a very important hinge!

                            Thanks,
                            Mark
