    Assmann Pilot Badge Opinions

I am NOT familiar with Assmann pilot badges although I've looked at the pictures on the forum some are consistent. But, your opinions would be helpful. Particularly, I can't match the eagle exactly...

I read in one of the threads Assmann used the same wreath for the pilot and para. I think that's absolutely true, but, the pilot badge wreath is thicker than the para in the two I have in my hand. Some great flaws to match to here if anyone has an Assmann.

The most compelling match are the rivets BUT I can't find a good enough picture to blow it up and match. And here I would go Tuckerarian if I could find a really good blow up from somebody's!

              Hi Brian...

....I have an Assmann pilots badge and although I haven't got a pic. handy, I believe yours has all the Assmann characteristics especially the "up side down ice cream cone" shape of the rivets. Hope this helps.

                Hmmmmmm.....

Don't panic! We're all just collectors on this forum...no experts are we!

I think Assmann badges are very interesting because I have seen, and own, several varieties that are not exactly alike. Nobody has done a definitive study of them, but I am convinced that Assmann had several variations of both their Pilot and Observer badges. The differences do not disturb me because Assmann was a very prolific maker of badges and why would we not expect to see them make changes over time as we did Juncker with the J1, J2, J3....and now the IMME badge?

I have seen this type of design before and I think it is good. The rivets look fine to me.

The extreme close-ups of your wreath are a little troublesome because it doesn't look very well made...some flaws that I haven't seen on others. Attached is a scan of the same badge that I think is good. Looks like yours. Notice how the claws were "clipped" and the different style of "A" on the makers mark. This type differs from the badge I have on my site, but I believe the one on my site is an earlier type. Nevertheless, I think your badge is OK, but not the best made of badges.

                      Hello,
Here is a picture of my Assmann P/O badge and it is 100% good. It look similar to your badge, but my catch is different.
