George, this is the badge you are talking about but it was the proverbial pony in the pile of sh1t, my favorite optimist story, "why are you digging so hard in that pile of manure? With all this sh1t there's got to be a pony in there somewhere!"
The rivets have been flattened a little to tighten it up but that is not uncommon on these early badges. Having it in hand there is not question it is good. The frosting on the wreath is typical Juncker and is the perfect match to 3 other flight badges I have. And it was the exact size, shape & hinge to the other J1 I sold.
Alan, my gut told me this one was good all along, and I did examine it at last year's SOS...thinking it was good in my hands then. I wanted to purchase it, but was a little gun shy since many of the other seller's pieces were outright junk. I posted the link to that badge to get some opinions, and it was shot down, but alas I'll need to go with my gut next time round. Congrats!
Hi George, I know the feeling too, passing up good things being a little to paranoid. I agree wholeheartedly that most of his site is trash, every paratrooper, the army para and every pilot badge but this one was junk and thats just for starters.
But those ponies are out there, I found a nice Meybauer para at the '05 SOS on a table of repros. Maybe I'll see you there, 3 weeks away, woohoo!
