    Hi,
    Now that's what I call a ugly badge,the ailby's I mean,can't believe it's original.
I vote for the Juncker made badge.
The Juncker eagle's head has the same features as the early Juncker Observerbadge eagle, which is a very nice badge too.
It would be nice to have some real good pictures of the Juncker type.
Maybe Pieter will provide us a nice sharp picture of his nice badge ?

    Jos.

      air crew badge

Thank´s for the scan mr Stump.
I guess I don´t have to send my scan, since I seem to have a
deadringer to mr Ailsby´s badge. Any chance of a pic of the
      reverse?

      Regards
      Peter

I am afraid I don't have a reverse of the Ailsby badge and the reverse of your you sent came in much too large. I can resize the scan. Below is a black and white scan I have in my files of the badge once owned by Bob McCarfhy.

I have handled 3 of these extremely rare badges during my collecting madness.
They were all Juncker types with the needle pin system and marked CEJ in a box and made of Buntmetall.

The one Bill showes is still in my collection and to my information the only surviving example with it's original unaltered case.

The Klietman's piece has always given me some suspicious thoughts on the wide pin.
I never saw this piece in reality, but I do not (my personal opinion)believe the pin is original to the badge.

The gentleman sent me the obverse of the badge and here it is.

                    TWO CASES

I have seen one other case for the early Air Crew badge. It came with a 2nd type Pilot Observer Badge with Diamonds, the wearing copy, once belonging to Luftwaffe General Dessloff.

                      CASE OPEN WITH BADGE

The cases for these badges are as scarce as the badge. The 2nd pattern Pilot Observer's Badge with diamonds, with swastika removed, is shown in this case.

As to the Air crew badge belonging to Pier. it would be interesting to note is this a cast piece or die struck? From the scans it seems to be cast.

                          ONE CASE

                          Hello Bill,

I know that case that you posted, but it is not for the Air Crew badge that's been discussed here.
I has been modified to house a Pilot Observer with Diamonds in the IMIT version.

                          Pieter.

Pieter, the case I examined is not for the Pilot/Observer's Badge with Diamonds, but modified and used by General Dessloff to hold his badge. It is much wider than the average Pilot Badge and has the same dimensions as your case. I don't know who purchased the case I featured, but the badge is now in a private collection in Chicago. What in your opinion was the case used for if not for the Air Crew badge?

                              FROM CHRISTOPER AILSBY

Chris sent me a scan of another aluminium badge and to post so that the comparison can be made. He wrote, "I have sent you a scan of an aluminium badge like mine that was in Patzwall archive and used in the early H.D. Kraft book Deutsche Luftfahrtabzeichen bis 1945.

                                Hello Bill,

First of all the case you show is a basic standart case for an Air Crew badge.

But this case has been modified at the interior to fit an other badge than the air Crew badge. Your case is modified to fit a badge with a VERTICAL pin and not an HORIZONTAL as used on the Air Crew badge.

To my information there is no special case for the Pilot Observer with Diamonds in the IMIT version.
As the inner velvet of your case seems to me a period modification, perhaps done by the firm to house the IMIT piece ?

So I think I may say that we cannot see this case as an unaltered one for the Air Crew badge.

                                Pieter.
