    Legion Condor

I'm not sure exactly which Forum this belongs in, but I'll start with Luftwaffe. If a Moderator wants to 'reassign' it, fine by me.

Does anyone know what the emblem on this Legion Condor named ring represents?

And how many guys in the LC had the initials of A.L.? It'd be great if the recipient was 'traceable'!

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi, Mark.
The ring has the Spanish "Legión" troops emblem.

      Hi Oscar,

Appreciate the link. My Spanish is a bit rusty. I studied the language in High School, and that would have been about 37 years ago! Would you be so kind as to just give me a one or two sentence explanation of the 'Legion' and its history?

      Thanks,
      Mark

Of course, Mark! ...and more than two sentences. Follow this link and you will find a good English account about the history of this famous Spanish unit.
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Legion

The founder of the Legión, Lieutenant Colonel Millán Astray, wanted to revive the ancient famous Spanish "Tercios",which fought bravely in Europe (Italy, Flanders...). This other link explains that stage of the Spanish History:
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tercio

In fact, the emblem reminds that age through the symbols: the ancient gun (arcabuz), the crossbow and the pike (alabarda). Your rings has no royal crown, which is the fourth symbol. It was suprimed during the Spanish Second Republic, Civil War included, (1931-1939) and Franco´s period (1936-1975).

        Hope this helps! Best regards.

          Oscar,

Thank You. I appreciate you 'summing up' the History. When I get home from work, I will 'travel' to the links that you provided.

          Regards,
