Dive Bombers Squadron Clasp, Silver, tombac

    Hello, Gentlemen.
I have had this piece for quite some time now. I bought it from Detlev's site. I have seen this same type badge with the four little holes around the wreath in what appeared to be 'teardrop' shaped holes. Are the round holes on this badge correct? I don't doubt Detlev's knowledge, I just haven't seen any other with the round holes.

          Round Holes--Good

          Robert,

Though some may disagree with me, round holes are good and commonly seen on the earlier unmarked pieces (usually tombak) and the triangular holes are mostly on the later produced (including zinc) clasps, some that are maker marked. Not a hard and fast rule, just seems to be the most encountered combinations IMO.

As far as the "teardrop" shaped holes, I don't buy them! Some may argue that it was a matter of how much hand finishing went into the piece. I personally don't buy that either--but that's me.

Thank you, Tim, for the input. These badges are new ground to me. I appreciate the help.
