    Air Gunner Badge Case Opinion Request

    Hello folks,

    This case looks like a modern made reproduction to me. I am posting to get a second opinion on this one.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

        Yes Calvin, this is one of a series of fake cases all built the same way with the same materials, but with the badges name changing on the different cases.

            Yep, I thought so.

            Strangly, it smelled of mothballs. I kept thinking maybe...

            Thanks for the help.

              Agreed modern case. See how shiny the opening stud and catch are, and the shiney plasticy case covering? Those are the kind of things to look for, among others.

                Hi Calvin,

                That type of modern looking velvet flocking, which has no sort of "weave" or pattern to it that originals seem to have, is another indicator for me.

                Could you try the following for me? On the lower insert, adjacent to the slit for the pin, could you try folding the velvet back (don't damage the case if you don't want to) and check for the following;
                1) does the underside of the velvet have a semi-translucent flexible plastic-like coating?
                2) does the material of the insert look like grey carbdoard (as opposed to genuine cases which are usually yellowish in appearance).

                Regards

                  I wonder about those cases in 15-20 years
