Juncker Pilot Badge - 1st Pattern?

    Hi All,
I'd appreciate some thoughts on the following badge I recently received from a good friend of mine in Europe. I don't know if I should describe it as a 1st pattern or not. The eagle looks like a 1st pattern to me but the wingtips on the left wing are shorter. The feathers are separated correctly for a 1st type, but shorter. They are definately rounded off and smoothly finished that way. Can I attribute this shortness to a little over zealous hand finishing or is it an eagle style stuck somewhere between
the 1st pattern badge eagle and the 2nd pattern badge eagle?
It's marked C.E. JUNCKER BERLIN SW rather than CEJ in a box. The wreath is definately of the 1st pattern - thin and flat. The hinge, rivits and catch look spot on to me also for a 1st pattern. Overall badge weight is 31.1 grams. I think it's a great early badge, but how early?

            Hi Eric,

I agree with Yuri - 100% genuine first pattern. Very nice!!

Re maker marks, you will only find the boxed CEJ on first pattern badges, never 2nd pattern, BUT the full C.E.Junkcer.... marking can also be found on first pattern badges.

As this badge has a tombak wreath (?eagle as well?), I'd suggest it is probably later first pattern as the earlier ones had altsilber/nuesilber wreaths/eagles.

Don't worry about variations in the eagle's wingtips - this was HAND finished so no eagles will be exactly alike.

Beautiful badge Eric, IMO I think this one is towards the end of the 1st pattern and entering near the 2nd pattern only because of the wing-tip finishing. Impossible to tell though. What's important is that it's a superb badge.

                    Yes!!!

Thanks to everybody who took the time to respond here! I had good feelings about it being a 1st pattern and you fellas solidified
that! - I just didn't know if there was another eagle in the mix that I wasn't aware of. Thanks also goes out to you all for the kind comments - all is appreciated!
                    Ivan,
My friend lives in Emmerich, Germany - He keeps on the lookout for me for what he calls the Hitler flying awards. He said it came from a family which his brother knows who had a couple of these " flying awards " All he could tell me was the pilots last name was Naumann and he flew with JG7 during the war and had 34 air victories - that's all the family knew. I haven't found anything yet to support this though!

                      Hello Eric,

                      Another nice find congrats.

Now you are my friend and I really hate to play hardball, BUT didn't you tell me when we went to the Lowell show: and I quote " I can only buy one of these LW pieces per month or my wife would kill me"

Hmmmmm........................sell me that GWL or I will have to do something drastic.

Just , seeing if your paying attention, Great score, I will be looking forward to seeing that one as well.

                      Best Regards,
                      JD

Let me amend that - one per month that she knows about! This one was on the sly!

                          Hello Eric,

                          Too funny
Now I am off to sly myself, as I have also exhausted my one a month badge. Oh............that was once a month on badges.....I know what Frank was thinking

                          Best,

Eric, In the book HORRIDO there is a list of Luftwaffe Aces and it lists a Maj. Johannes Naumann who flew with the 26, 6 and 7th. with 34 victories (7 four motor) it states he also held the KC. I wonder if this is the same man.

                              Really!!??

                              Hi James,
Thanks very much for that lead on the name. Sounds pretty similar to me! You also added a few other pieces to my "puzzle"! A Major - first name Johannes - a KC winner( )and additional units 6 and 26. Gosh, I hope it really is him, wouldn't that be awesome! Anyone else with info on this particular individual please don't be shy! I seem to have a little reasearch to do now!
                              Thanks!
