Thank you, Ivan, for the reply. In my study of the badge I can spot the base metal showing through on the 'flanges' that secure the hinge in place. The darkened finish has worn away in this area to reveal a brass colored metal. I am presuming it to be 'buntmetal'. On other badges of zinc or feinzinc the base metal looks grey or almost black where worn. I have only two things to go by here:

      1. The badge is heavier than the same makers zinc version, and...
      2. The base metal appears to be brass-colored where exposed.

If you have any other method(s) of solving this question, please don't hesitate in responding. These Luft GAB's are a new study to me, and I am eager to learn more about them.

      Thanks again.

I have two (2) "Muk 5" Luft Ground assault badges. Both weigh 32.9 grams.

My "RK" badge weighs 32.7 grams.

        All are zinc.

I think your badge looks like zinc and the weight conforms to my examples.

Thanks, Lorenzo. You have been a great help in the past on many of my other badges I have posted. To tell you the truth, I really don't know what to conclude here. I appreciate everyone's help on this. I think the best idea I have heard so far is to let one of you more experienced collectors look at this beauty in person. Tim, if you are still there, I'll have to bring it to the next show as you mentioned and let you hold it...and not for too long. Ha!

Thanks again to all. It's been good.
