Hi Frank,
A remarkable badge....
First of all,after a thorough inspection,I think it's a cast,fake badge..
It's a nice badge though...
As you say the eagle looks like the juncker 3th pattern,I guess they used the 3th pattern as a example for it,also the wreath looks junckerish, but hasn't the juncker quality...
The back shows me it probably is a cast one, just look at the swas area...
For now I'll share it with the "Weitze" 43 marked P/O..., a seldom found rare badge...
Jos.

Done! Can do more scans later if needed.
Remember, nothing to gain or lose from this thread. I just thougt it would be interesting to discuss this badge and bring it back should we all agree it is bad.
Btw, don´t want to post it now because things get mixed up, but a Juncker 3 eagle up close looks WORSE, if you wonder what that "blob body" above is. It is the magnification!
Shoot away!Cheers, Frank

Hi, Frank. Good points you raise.
I agree that the hinge and rivets are like those on other Osang badges....good points to consider. The mark IS different than other Osang's.
I don't see signs of casting. What are those signs, Jos? How much does the badge weigh? It appears to be a brass alloy, and casting brass is not very practical since the melting point of copper alloys is so much higher than that of zinc (about 1,100 ºCelsius (C) compared 420 ºC for zinc alloys).
The details don't look good to me.(..but I don't like the details on BSW or the J3, either. )
Also, I've blown up the scan and it appears that the INNER acorns are smooth...lacking detail. That is worrisome since the inner portion of the wreath is not a place whwere you would expect to see wear. Maybe it's just the scan....or....?
Ummmm...overall I'd say the badge is "questionable" and I'm not crazy about it.....but I've seen stranger looking badges touted as "real".Visit my Badge Collection: http://lbmilitaria.homestead.com/home.html

Detail is relative, remember guys that we usually do not blow up our badges THAT much! Here is an eagle of a Juncker FIRST type, not too good detail either if you look at it like that!
Lorenzo, the impression of worn acorns must be due to the scan, they are not worn on the inside wreath. Detail is also inconsistent on the acorns, some are a bit sloppy, but that is not due to wear.
Sorry, no precise weight available! Weighing it "in hand", I would say it weighs around the same as a J3. Nothing out of the ordinary, not too heavy or too light.
Cheers, FrankCheers, Frank

Another thought why casting is not an option for me:
If I know I will cast a fake, I would not go through the effort and create a NEW eagle (and a new wreath), I would just create a mold from a J3 eagle (or any other known eagle).
Thanks for the participation, guys! Tomorrow I will reveal some more that I found out in connection with this badge. Unless you are not already bored, I promise it remains exciting! Now for some sleep!
Cheers, FrankCheers, Frank
