Need some help on this one. I have not done enough study on these R.S.S. clasps to be safe. Can anyone tell me if this maker mark looks correct? Can you see the defect to the backside of the wreath? Is this typical for this maker's clasp? Opinions please. Thank you. Robert

Dear Robert,
I don´t like that catch at all. It is wrong for R.S.S. clasps (or any maker´s clasp). Maker´s mark seems to be not too badly copied, but that defect is also not known to me. Maybe show the whole clasp? But from the catch and that rim alone I would say not good.

Thanks, guys! Yeah, this guy got my name somehow?? and has been sending me photos of badges, uniforms, etc. for weeks now. I can't believe he thinks anyone would send him that kind of money to a complete stranger. Dreamer. I was going to see if it was indeed an authentic piece and then ask him to send it for my inspection, and THEN send money. I don't think he'd do that either. Thank you again. I certainly appreciate the prompt replies! Oh, I almost forgot, his name is Jasson.

Mr. Nimmergut shows this hinge and catch in his new addition of book Nr. 4 on a RSS Clasp which came from a veteran.
And now ? Godd or bad ?

Hi ak,
You think it is ok now because it is in a book? You will find MANY things not accurate in Nimmergut´s heavy tomes. As an example, I recently went through his portion about the GAB and was disturbed to find fakes in there, let me just mention the infamous Assmann screwback GAB!
I stand by my opinion: I have never seen an original RSS clasp with that catch. The ones I saw in vets groupings and am comfortable with had the catch I show in this thread.Cheers, Frank

no I don't believe a badge is good because someone shows it in a book .... and i know some of the mistakes mr. nimmergut made in his book, but i'm talking about his "Ergänzungsband" published some weeks ago in which he coorected some of the mistakes. And in this "Ergänzungsband" he presents this style of RSS badge from a verteran.
But what make a badge a good one .... the personal opinion of someone or hard facts ??
I donTt give my thumbs down to a badge because i had never seen it before ....

I got out of collecting clasps about 10 years ago. They were just getting to good at faking them and it was to hard to spot the differences when you were on a fleamarket.
I´ve seen lots of clasps over the years, quiet a few RSS ones as well. None of them ever looked like the ones shown in Nimmerguts book. Strange how we now suddenly have this one from Nimmergut, one from Robert and another one that is obviously in AKs possession.
AK, were did yours come from?
The hinge on yours looks somehow bent. Can you show us an angled shot of the hinge. How do you think that could have happened?
Its all very well to say that this came from soandso a guy and thats why its real. Who knows how many hands that guys estate went through until Nimmergut got his hands on it. Nimmerguts has only a rudimentry grasp on TR awards, his field is more Kaiserreich orientated. I have seen Nimmerguts Expertisen (CoAs) that were a joke, giving well known fake badges the psudo authority of a state recognized expert. In TR awards Nimmergut is years behind.
Now these clasps look very convincing, in fact, in a weak moment at a market I might even have bought one. We know that RSS used wide wire stock, of the same kind on other badges (minesweeper). The raised maker mark also looks very good, and correct.
Only problem is, my gut feeling tells me that these are modern repros, although I sure would have to hold one in my hand to make a final 100% decision.
