Skip, I like your badge. The Assmann is my favorite observer badge. I really like the detail as well as the overall convex shape of the entire badge's frontside. Even the swastica is convex both vertically and horizontally. The wreath and eagle work together to make a very beautifully designed badge. A side view of the badge really reveals this detail. This is just my thinking, but I think Assmann made a badge that fit the uniform better. With the more convexed shape of the badge it was less likely to become snagged on things while being worn. I look at my Juncker and Deumer observer badges and see that they are 'flatter'. It would be hard to guess how many hours it took in making the first wax prototype piece. These guys were fantastic craftsmen. Assmann observer badges are really easy to look upon. I've included a photo of my favorite Assmann. Robert

thanks for all the responses.
Robert, lovely badge, and the rivets are even cleanly done, I´ve noticed that with a lot of Assmann badges the rivets are either deformed or, like mine, with the ring punch mark only on one side.
I have also a qustion for all of you out there, my Observer is with a raised makers mark but I have seen by a lot of others here that they are stamped in, see Roberts example, is this a sign of when they were made ie. early and late types, or is it a mix and nobody knows why?.

Yes, Assmann Observer badges are one of my favourites as well. In particular I enjoy the feel and overall badge construction. It is very pleasing to the eye with fine detail to the feathers and other parts of the Eagle.

Someday I hope to have a complete Assmann collection.

Skip, I have seen quite a few threads lately on the Assmann observer badge and other Assmann badges as well. There have been a number of variations to the maker mark, including the raised logo. Some had a circle around the 'A'. A member posted the Assmann catalog showing the logo with the circle well illustrated. I have seen several different style logos. The badges that were posted all received everyone's approval as being original. Getting back to your original question on periods of certain logo variations, I am not much help there. I don't have enough examples myself of the different variations. Every Assmann piece I have comes from the early war period. And they all have the same logo style. Running back through the many threads you should be able to find answers to your question. Here is a photo of the 'A' on a early observer badge... Robert

I have looked at all the threads about Assmann, especially before purchasing the badge, as even here the prices are not cheap.
