    P.Meybauer Observer Badge...good ??

Could I ask you all to look at this badge and let me know what you think? The photos came from a dealer and they are all we have to work with. Does anyone have any photos of another Meybauer observer? I don't see many badges by this maker. Are they scarce/rare? Thank you in advance. Robert

I'll post a few photos to study...

        Dear Robert,

Looks ok to me for this type of Meybauer Observer. There is another type with only the PM logo, which has a much narrower and sturdy hinge.

          Hello Robert,

I concur with Frank, that your example looks fine to me as well. In reference to rarity, I think the badge is rare because few collectors want to part with them.
Seriuosly , they just do not seem to be around all that much, I think that Detlev had one up last week, can't remember if it was an Observer or Pilots badge.
Here is mine to compare, Sorry the pics are not as good as I would like, but I had to use my scanner instead of my camera. I hope this helps.

          Later,
          JD

I too agree about the eagle being Meybauer - but I have reservations about the portion of the wreath on the reverse of Joe's badge vs. the other posted by Robert . Look at the reverse of both badges at the 7 to 9 o'clock area. I know Joes badge is a good one - But Roberts? Does anyone recognize this as a Meybauer feature?

                Eric,
Could this wreath possibly be an earlier pattern Meybauer? I'm just throwing that out there, considering Juncker made so many different patterns. I thought perhaps Meybauer did the same throughout the early years...? The hinge does appear to be a little wider than the other example posted. Almost to be compared with the early Juncker hinges....These Meybauers are new to me. What do you think? Is it to be considered a keeper? Robert

                  Jos,
Could you possibly post a photo of the maker mark for comparison? Looking at the two badges, you can see similarities such as the same rivet style, size. So far every other Meybauer observer badge I can find on and off of this site has the same wreath features as your badge. Robert

                    Hi Robert,
Possible yes - To date though I have not seen the feature I pointed out earlier. I know TBall has an early tombak Meybauer and that's the only other I've seen in quite awhile. His wreath is the same pattern as Joes is. Also, I too noticed the hinge being a bit larger on your posted one. So the one in your pics may or may not be from a second set of dies if original. I just don't know - let's see what others feel about this. I hope TBall sees this and will post his badge for us. Meybauer is not a maker I know a lot about either, but I do recognize the abnormalty in this area on the badge as being a first for me.

                      Eric,
Thank you for your help once again. I am also convinced that this is not a badge for me...too many abnormalities to contend with. I am going to contact the dealer and cancel my hold. I just feel safer in purchasing badges that fall within the guidelines of textbook features. I think I said that right..? I am still very interested in finding out more about this particular maker's features. Hopefully someone else will post a picture to further help us. Thanks. Robert

                              Hello Eric,

I agree on the wreath, maybe Junker. The piece Robert posted, on the whole does not look to share the same Meybauer characteristics.

                              Best Regards,
                              JD

I will get some additional pics up later.
